Parramatta City Council Archives preserves and makes accessible records relating to the functions and activities of Parramatta City Council from the time of its incorporation in 1863. It includes records of Granville, Dundas, and Ermington and Rydalmere Municipal Councils which were amalgamated with Parramatta Council in 1948. These records illuminate the history and development of the Council and reflect the changes in the community and the rich history of the Parramatta area.
From visual art to a horse-drawn baker’s cart or a ship’s bell serving as a baptismal font. A surprising array of objects and ephemera comprise these Art, Social History and Archaeology collections. Recording life from Colonial settlement to contemporary cultural expressions, the collections include military, domestic and civic objects and archaeological material recovered from local sites with some material dating back to 1791.
Photographs can provide information and a rare glimpse into the past. The photographic and image collection of the Parramatta Local Studies Library can be searched on this website. The Library's other resources can be searched on the Parramatta City Library's web catalogue. The online collection will be added to over time. Further materials for research are available at our Centre.
